Important thoughts for us today.
We generally like Show day a little more than the Tuesday meeting. One of the trends we like to back into is the fact that the All stars stable may not back up as well as everyone is imagining they will. We've noted this trend over the last few Show day meetings so we're fine backing against the boom stable. While this may turn out to be foolish we're sticking to out guns and you'll note we haven't selected a All Stars runner today. We've also reverted back to our "on merit only" selecting strength and picked only the horses we really like here today rather than a full race card.
Race 3 [1:22pm] MACCA LODGE 'TRAINED SOUTH OF THE WAITAKI' MOBILE PACE $30,000, UP TO & INCLUDING R70, 1980m
#6 Tact Maggie. A game mare up against the blokes in this but does look a leading chance. Brave in defeat to Ivana Flybye last start and has real bottom to her. They normally run like the wind in this race so she'll need to be as tough as we know she can be. Strong winning chance. 1st $2.00 1.20
Race 7 [3:45pm] PEEK EXHIBITION - ALF HUGHES MEMORIAL MOBILE TROT $25,000, R56 TO R70, 1980m
#11 Majestic Man. Smart trotter returning to a course where he's found some big performances in the past. The trip and field strength look to be his preferred options. Zsa Zara in front of him isn't our ideal scenario but he demands respect in a field like this. Has been freshened and that's a state he runs well in generally. 2nd $1.70 ($2.10 Fixed Place)

#9 Alta Maestro. He's come back in great order this time around and if he's able to get away with then he'll prove very hard to beat in this line-up. We're backing against the All Stars in this with Funatthebeach appearing flat over the last furlong on Tuesday and Bettor Be Gold appearing to struggle in his grade. 1st $3.70 1.60 ($4.50 Fixed Win)
Race 9 [4:55pm] 'USED TO ME' AT HARAS des TROTTEURS DOMINION TROT (STAND) (Gr1) $300,000, FFA, 3200m
#16 Marcoola. The big performances this time in have come from this horse. Almost effortless win in good time in the flying mile at Ashburton and he's got a heart the size of Jupiter. Will be put into this 3200m affair and asked to tough it out I'd imagine. I like the fact they missed Tuesday for a tilt at the feature today. Strong winning chance. 1st $6.50 2.80
#4 Speeding Spur. The old iron horse dug deep to get up on Tuesday but this is a big ask against fresh runners. 4th

#9 Bettor's Heart. I just haven't been sold on her this time in but the Bagrie team does tend to lift in these big events and she can leave the gate. At her best she'd be right in this. 3rd $1.80
