SELECTIONS FOR THIS MEETING  25
SELECTIONS RUNNING IN THE FIRST FOUR POSITIONS 15

Welcome into our cup day selections for the New Zealand cup day meeting of 2016. We wish you all the best for this great day of racing and hope that we can help you turn a profit.  We've endeavoured to give as much relative information about prospects as we have seen fit. Trifecta and first four players would be advised to read our "other thoughts" sections to get a feeling for runners to put into their wagers...

Great champions of the past...

Who will be crowned today ?

Race 4 [1:41pm] HOME & FAMILY FREE FOR ALL (MOBILE PACE) (Gr3)  $35,000, FFA, 2600m

#9 Dream About Me. A class mare who will not shirk the fight against some excellent talent today. The first-up win  at Ashburton did have quality about it. The 2600m means she'll most probably settle before being injected into the race at some stage. Strong each-way claims for a super mare.  1st $2.00 1.40.  Quinella $5.60.  Trifecta $14.20
#7 Field Marshal. I've found him ahead of Locharburn given the fact that I think he'll fly the gate and work to the lead early. May be able to dictate terms for some of the race. Showed he's got open class potential with his Ashburton effort.  3rd ND
#8 Locharburn. NZ cup hopeful who unfortunately isn't lining up in the big one. He's as tough as woodpecker lips and will make sure they know he's there.  2nd $2.40

Race 5 [2:15pm] COLGATE OPTIC WHITE MOBILE PACE  $20,000, 4YO & OLDER MARES C1 TO C2, 2600m

#13 American Tart. If she's fit and healthy she'd represent one of the strongest bets today. Has been taken along quietly at trials and workouts which is my only question given she did have her problems last campaign. 2600m is fine and the fact that the stable-mate may lead is an added bonus as that may allow her to work to the front at some stage. If she's on her game I think she'll be tough to beat.  1st $3.00 1.60

Race 6 [2:50pm] GRANITE BENCHTOP COMPANY NZ TROTTING FREE-FOR-ALL (MOBILE) (Gr1)  $80,000, FFA, 1950m

#12 Monbet. He'll be tested today. I originally thought they were going to focus purely on the Dominion but he's entered today. He'll know he's been in a race here after drawing the car park out the back. Good first up win over the mile though and his quality isn't in question. Can work and win. May be too short to back though.  1st $1.40 1.20
Race 7 [3:23pm] NRM SIRES STAKES SERIES No.33 FINAL (MOBILE PACE) (Gr1)  $170,000, 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS, 1950m

#5 More The Bettor. I'm not entirely convinced he's a better horse this time in. Comes into a nice draw and has a few stable-mates to aid his chances early today. With the right run will be very hard to roll and must be the main threat to the #4.  2nd $1.20
#8 Ultimate Machete. Don't be surprised if he's able to win this even from the wide barrier. The first up run at Forbury showed he can do a power of work and still contend here. Rolling type who'll go to war with anything that cares to take him on. Total respect.  1st $4.30 1.60.  Quinella $4.70

Race 8 [4:03pm] PASCOES THE JEWELLERS MOBILE PACE  $20,000, 4YO & OLDER C3 TO C4, 2600m

#13 Mr Mojito. He's a pretty special horse. The trial win last week showed all his class. He'll continue to make his way through the grades. The back-row draw shouldn't stop him here. Look for a mid-race move and a winning-post victory.  1st $1.20 1.00
#5 Ears Burning. Good this time in and appears an animal with the talent to work his way through the grades. Will enjoy the 2600m mobile. I'd prefer him to be driven cold and asked for one sustained run at them late.  3rd $2.50

Race 9 [4:42pm] AVON CITY FORD MOBILE PACE  $20,000, 3YO & OLDER C1, 1950m

#11 Vincent. Looks another strong chance for the All Stars today. Impress winning at Ashburton and looked to have more to give in the running in his trial last Wednesday. Is set to follow out his stable-mate if the field remains as it is and it's important that it does for him to warrant a short quote on the tote. Strong winning chance and the quote of $2.20 is probably about right. 2nd $1.30
Race 10 [5:17pm] CHRISTCHURCH CASINO NZ TROTTING CUP (Gr1)  $750,000, FFA PACE, 3200m

The big race . God Of Nations....

#5 Lazarus. A 4yr old who could not have been more impressive in the build-up to this years  New Zealand cup. I see him receiving favours from Smolda if he's under any mid-race pressure. It's my belief he'll hand an early lead up to Smolda if he finds himself in front and that may well win him the race. All lead up runs have been super. I can't fault him and have him on top.  1st $2.00 1.40
#3 Smolda. This race suits Smolda perfectly. He'll see out the 3200m the best out of the entire field. Has put in excellent runs at both Methven and Kaikoura. My only problem is with him sitting parked again and preventing another runner getting to parked if Lazarus is leading. So yes I can see him winning under the right circumstances (leading, not handing to stable-mates) but I can't see those circumstances happening!  Will be game today whatever happens.  4th

Race 11 [5:56pm] THE RECRUITMENT NETWORK TROT  $20,000, 3YO & OLDER C1, 2600m

While most of the crowd might be funnelling out of Addington minus a bit of dignity and with lighter wallets we'll still be firing! (all things going well)

#4 Kingdom Come. Justin Smith needs to find a pair of light hands here and get this horse going early. An early gallop at Ashburton saw him finish down the field but I do believe he can bounce back today. If he finds the front early and maintains a position near the speed he'd be a sound each-way bet.  3rd $2.10

Race 12 [6:34pm] BLUE STAR TAXIS MOBILE PACE  $20,000, 3YO & OLDER C2, 1950m

A very competitive finish to the day. A lot of chances in this with race tempo and early speed dictating horses chances.

#1 Major Rocket. Cran always tends to go a little flat over cup time but this one might give him something to smile about late in the day. The run into 2nd behind Delightful Memphis was sound and overall I've been impressed by her lately. The early speed may see her crossed early in this so luck may be needed late. Look for her late on the passing lane.  2nd $2.10
